Daily Life With Parkinson’s

Help That Moves at Their Pace

Parkinson’s symptoms often change from day to day, and even during the same day. Good days and hard days both need a plan. Our caregivers allow extra time for each task, give a steady arm when it is needed, and let your loved one do as much as they can on their own.

We also pay attention to the home. Loose rugs, poor lighting, and cluttered walkways can make moving around harder. During the consultation, we look at how your loved one moves through the home and suggest simple changes that can help.

Signs It May Be Time

Families Often Call When:

  • Dressing, bathing, or eating takes much longer than before
  • Getting up from a chair or bed is becoming harder
  • There has been a fall or a near fall
  • A spouse is doing more and more of the care alone
  • Medication times are being missed
  • Your loved one is spending more time alone at home

What Our Caregivers Do Not Do

Better Choice Care is a licensed non-medical home care agency. Our caregivers do not give medications, adjust treatment, provide nursing care, or provide physical, occupational, or speech therapy. Your loved one’s doctor and therapists stay in charge of medical care, and we plan our visits around their appointments and home visits.

Questions From Families

Parkinson’s Care FAQ

Can caregivers give Parkinson’s medications?

No. Our caregivers are non-medical and do not give medications. They can give verbal reminders at the times on your loved one’s medication schedule.

Can a caregiver help prevent falls?

Caregivers give standby help with walking and standing, and they watch for everyday risks such as loose rugs or clutter. No one can prevent every fall, but steady help and a safer home can lower the risk.

Can you help my parent do the exercises their therapist gave them?

Yes. Caregivers can remind and encourage your loved one to do the exercises the care team recommended. They do not provide therapy themselves.

We already have home health visits. Can you help too?

Yes. Many families use both. We plan our visits around the nurse or therapist’s schedule and cover daily routines in between.

How many hours of care will we need?

It depends on your loved one’s needs and your family’s schedule. Many families start with a few visits a week and add hours as needs change. We talk this through during the free consultation.
