Caregivers You Can Trust in Your Home
Every caregiver is a Better Choice Care employee, screened and registered with the state before their first visit.
Letting someone into your parent’s home is a big decision. This page explains exactly how we hire, check, train, and match our caregivers, so you know who is coming to the door and why we chose them.
Schedule a Free ConsultationFive Steps Before Any Caregiver Meets a Client
We do not place anyone with a family until every step is complete.
Phone Screening
A short call to learn about the applicant’s experience, availability, and reasons for doing this work.
In-Person Interview
We meet strong applicants face to face and ask how they would handle real situations they will face in a home.
Background Clearance
Each caregiver completes DOJ and FBI background clearance and must be listed on the California Home Care Aide Registry. When driving may be part of the job, we also review the driving record.
Orientation and Training
Caregivers complete required orientation and safety training, and receive clear service-plan instructions, before their first assignment.
Careful Matching
We match each caregiver to a family based on schedule, care needs, personality, and experience.
What Every Caregiver Has
Our caregivers are W-2 employees of Better Choice Care, not independent contractors. That means we handle payroll, taxes, scheduling, and supervision, and your family does not become anyone’s employer.
Better Choice Care is a home care organization licensed by the California Department of Social Services (HCO #374700466). We carry the insurance and employee bond that California requires for licensed home care organizations.
Every Caregiver:
- Is a Better Choice Care employee
- Passed DOJ and FBI background clearance
- Is listed on the California Home Care Aide Registry
- Completed required orientation and safety training
- Had a driving record review, when driving is part of the job
How We Match a Caregiver to Your Family
A good match makes care feel natural. During the free consultation, we learn about your loved one’s routine, personality, and preferences, then look for a caregiver who fits.
If something does not feel right after the first visits, tell us. We will talk it through and, if needed, find a better match.
We Look At:
- The days and hours your family needs
- The type of help needed, such as personal care or companionship
- Experience with memory loss, if that is part of care
- Personality, interests, and communication style
- Any preferences your loved one has about their caregiver
Support From Our Office
Your Care Coordinator is your single point of contact. Our office stays in contact with caregivers and families, and we review the service plan when needs change.
If your regular caregiver is sick or on vacation, we tell you and arrange coverage based on caregiver availability. Our phone is answered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
