About Our Services
What is non-medical home care?
Non-medical home care is help with daily living at home: bathing, dressing, grooming, meals, light housework, companionship, and reminders. It helps older adults stay safe and comfortable in their own homes.
What do your caregivers help with?
Personal care, companionship, meal preparation, light housekeeping and laundry, help moving around the home, verbal reminders (including medication reminders), and support with familiar routines. Every task is written in the service plan. See our personal care and companion care pages.
What can caregivers not do?
Our caregivers do not provide nursing care, wound care, injections, therapy, or medication administration, and they do not give medical advice. For a medical emergency, call 911.
Are you a home health agency?
No. Better Choice Care is a non-medical home care organization licensed by the California Department of Social Services (HCO #374700466). Home health agencies provide medical care ordered by a doctor. Learn the difference.
Do you help people with dementia?
Yes. We provide non-medical support for people living with memory loss, with steady routines, patient communication, and attention to everyday safety. Read about dementia care.
What areas do you serve?
We serve San Diego County, including Rancho Bernardo, Poway, 4S Ranch, Santaluz, Rancho Peñasquitos, Carmel Valley, and Escondido. See all areas.
Getting Started
How do we start?
Call us or send a message. We will set up a free in-home consultation, learn about your loved one’s routine and needs, and write a service plan together with your family.
Is the consultation free?
Yes. The in-home consultation is free, and there is no obligation to start care.
How soon can care begin?
It depends on the consultation, the schedule you need, and caregiver availability. When you call, we will explain current availability and the next steps.
Do we have to sign a long-term contract?
No. There is no long-term contract to begin care.
Caregivers
Are your caregivers employees?
Yes. Every caregiver is a W-2 employee of Better Choice Care, not an independent contractor. Read how we hire.
Are caregivers background-checked?
Yes. Each caregiver completes a Live Scan fingerprint background check and must be listed on the California Home Care Aide Registry before working with a client.
Will we have the same caregiver?
We try to keep the same caregiver whenever the schedule allows, because a familiar face matters, especially for someone with memory changes.
What if the caregiver is not a good fit?
Tell your Care Coordinator. We will talk with you about what is not working and look for a better match.
What if our caregiver is sick?
We let you know and arrange coverage based on caregiver availability.
Schedules
Do you offer overnight, 24-hour, or live-in care?
No. We provide scheduled daytime visits. We do not offer overnight, 24-hour, or live-in care.
Can I reach you after hours?
Yes. Our phone is answered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Can the schedule change after care starts?
Yes. Changes are written into the service plan and confirmed based on caregiver availability. Many families start with a few hours and adjust over time.
Cost and Payment
How much does home care cost?
Cost depends on the number of hours and the type of help needed. Call us for current rates. We explain the cost clearly before care begins.
How do families pay?
Families pay privately for the hours of care in their service plan, with no long-term contract. See how paying for home care works.
Still Have a Question?
Call us any time. We are happy to talk through your situation, with no pressure.
